Call for papers - Storytelling. Sociology of stories - Extended deadline!

2023-06-20

The Editorial Board of “Przegląd Socjologiczny” invites authors to submit contributions to the special issue on sociology of stories (storytelling).

Storytelling. Sociology of stories

Homo narrans, a narrator, a scald, a reciter, a fabulist… storytelling is a skill that – if we compare ourselves to other species – defines humans much more clearly than the use of language alone. Humans have been able not only to understand the complex natural world and thus survive for thousands of years, but also, through the use of their imagination, to transform reality figuratively into previously non-existent forms. Story can also help us explain the rules of the real world, revealing to us the principles of social life and providing guidance on how we can exist in it. However understood, communication is a dimension of human life that offers almost unlimited possibilities of analysis for researchers interested in it.

In the proposed issue, we want to reflect on one of the ways of communicating: a direction discussed in the international literature, a research perspective, a method of structuring interviews, a research technique, a way of deconstructing cultural texts, or a multithreaded storytelling technique immersed in cultural contexts and conducted through a variety of media. In a word, we dedicate the volume to storytelling. We are particularly interested in how storytelling can serve sociology, and how sociology can serve storytelling.

We hope for texts that show how this perspective is applied in practical and theoretical research, but also the ones that reflexively treat storytelling by putting it in a broader theoretical framework.

We invite papers both in Polish and English. Guidelines for preparing a manuscript for publication in “Przegląd Socjologiczny” are available on the journal's website: http://journals.ltn.lodz.pl/index.php/Przeglad-Socjologiczny/information/authors
