TŁUMACZENIE NA OBRAZKI. O ILUSTRACJACH WIERSZY DLA DZIECI JULIANA TUWIMA / Translating Poetry into Images. Illustrations to Julian Tuwim’s Poems for Children

Abstract

The article address certain problems connected with illustrating Julian Tuwim’s poems for children, or, in other words, translating them into images. It approaches this issue from the perspective of a specialist in visual communication rather than a literary scholar. The observations made by the author are based on a survey conducted among the illustrators of one of the most well-known, recent editions of Tuwim’s poems and the first-year students of graphic design at the Pedagogical University of Cracow. The article points to a number of challenges that a contemporary illustrator of Tuwim’s works is faced with.
