The aim of this study is to present the effects of periglacial environmental activity during the Pleistocene in Poland. The analysis of sediments, permafrost structures and landforms made it possible to distinguish two main morphogenetic facies – detrital and tundra – as well as six areas that differed in intensity of denudation processes. Periglacial deposits include mainly sands, clays, loess, silts and debris covers formed as a result of the combined action of periglacial, slope and aeolian processes. Several types of permafrost structures were identified, including involutions, congelifluction structures and frost wedges, whose spatial distribution indicates a distinct altitudinal zonation, particularly in the southern regions of Poland. The spatial variability of periglacial forms and processes reflects the changing climatic conditions of the Pleistocene and enables the reconstruction of the extent and intensity of periglacial morphogenesis in different parts of the country.
