Abstract

Ten years have passed since the publication of “Meluzyna” began. Issue 22 is the latest issue published by the Łódź Scientific Society. Our experience in editing the journal leads us to the conclusion that we cannot dedicate the pages of “Meluzyna” solely to young researchers, that is, historians of early Polish literature, even though this journal was created with them in mind and for them.

We want – and we emphasize this with full conviction – for “Meluzyna” to be an opportunity for meetings between representatives of the humanities from all generations of researchers, from many centers, and therefore for adepts of knowledge, who are growing up in diverse academic schools and developing under the guidance of their own mentors.

Over time, the journal’s subject matter has also expanded. “Meluzyna” has published works representing disciplines such as history, linguistics, and Polish studies. Starting with the current issue, we want to further emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of our journal, therefore, in addition to literary scholars, we are particularly keen to invite representatives of the historical sciences, historical linguistics, and Polish studies to collaborate.

Striving to internationalize the journal, we are once again inviting colleagues from abroad to collaborate – and we are also opening the pages of “Meluzyna” to comparative studies of early Polish literature and culture. We believe that there are far too few such works being produced. To broaden our Polish perspective, it is essential to look at early texts and culture from a perspective other than our national one. We invite Slavic scholars, as well as Neo-Latinists, Romanists, and Germanists, to work together on a reflection on the cultural community of our countries and languages.

An integral part of our journal’s activities is the organization of conferences organized under the common title “Meetings with Meluzyna.” To date, meetings have been held in Pobierowo (2017 and 2019), Wisła (2018), at an online conference in 2021, and, after a long hiatus, at a conference in Łódź in 2025. Like the pages of “Meluzyna,” these events also provide a space for meetings and discussions between students and masters, as well as representatives of various disciplines.

Prof. Maria Barłowska (University of Silesia) and Dr. Ewa Cybulska-Bohuszewicz (Institute of Literary Research, Polish Academy of Sciences) have left the editorial team; please accept our thanks once again. Dr. hab. Paweł Bohuszewicz (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) and Dr. hab. Dorota Rojszczak-Robińska (Adam Mickiewicz University) have joined the editorial team. From issue 19 onward, Dr. Kamila Żukowska (University of Łódź) has served as editorial secretary.

We have invited historians Dr. hab. Marek A. Janicki (University of Warsaw) and Dr. hab. Tomasz Wiślicz (Institute of History, Polish Academy of Sciences), as well as the linguist Prof. dr hab. Joanna Kulwicka-Kamińska (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń).

We continue to ask for your critical and kind support by participating in discussions on the topics discussed in “Meluzyna.”
