TYTUŁ ORYGINALNY: La famille du mot “périglaciaire”
Autor analizuje rozwój i użycie terminu „peryglacjalny” w naukach o Ziemi, odpowiadając na ankietę Komisji Geomorfologii Peryglacjalnej Międzynarodowej Unii Geograficznej. Hamelin wskazuje, że mimo licznych wad, pojęcie to jest najtrafniejszym określeniem zjawisk i procesów zachodzących w strefach zimnych. Omawia jego ewolucję znaczeniową, problemy terminologiczne i propozycje alternatywnych rdzeni słownych (np. cryo, géli, nivo). Przedstawia klasyfikację pojęć pochodnych i powiązanych, tworząc systematyczny przegląd terminologii peryglacjalnej. Artykuł ma charakter metajęzykowy i służy ujednoliceniu słownictwa geomorfologicznego.
