Rozwój kriopedologii w Czechosłowacji

Na obszarze Czechosłowacji, która podczas maksymalnego zasięgu zlodowaceń plejstoceńskich znajdowała się w strefie przedpola lądolodu, zachowały się niektóre struktury peryglacjalne. Już w pierwszych dziesięcioleciach XX wieku zjawiska te były omawiane w literaturze czechosłowackiej, jednak ich peryglacjalne pochodzenie rozpoznano dopiero znacznie później. Jeszcze do niedawna badania w Czechosłowacji dotyczyły głównie struktur kopalnych. W ostatnich latach prace badawcze skupiły się na współczesnych zjawiskach występujących w regionach wysokogórskich. Skutki działania mrozu, znane z badań form kopalnych, wymagają dalszych analiz, które mają znaczenie również w innych dziedzinach geologii czwartorzędu, a także w zastosowaniach praktycznych (rolnictwo, budownictwo itp.). Znaczenie kriopedologii, zwłaszcza kriopedologii stosowanej, zostało dopiero niedawno w pełni docenione.
