ventifacts, polished pebbles, stone pavementAbstract
Studies on the occurrence of ventifacts in the Netherlands have shown that such forms are found exclusively within stone pavements and have not been observed in the underlying sediments. Analysis of samples from the Huizen area revealed a much smaller proportion of ventifacts than in eastern Germany, suggesting local differences in the intensity of aeolian processes, independent of the type of rocks forming the ventifacts. The greatest concentration of ventifacts was recorded along the north-western margins of the Veluwe region, probably resulting from the influence of northerly and north-westerly winds during the Würm glacial period.
