Abstract

The paper presents the classification of periglacial formations due to processes involved. Cryolithogenesis is divided into two main groups of processes: cryogenic diagenesis (formation of stable ice and ice-rich rocks) and cryogenic weathering (cyclic freezing and thawing). The cryogenic forms contingent is discussed and classified upon the types of cryolithogenesis and corresponding genetic horizons, with two main groups of epigenetic and syngenetic type.
