The paper presents the origin and types of cryogenic eluvium in the permafrost zones of Western Yakutia. Three varieties are distinguished – surface, deep and bottom – that differ in freezing conditions and ice structures. Their study helps to better understand the development of periglacial landforms, slopes and the processes leading to the formation of thermokarst lakes and erosional valleys.
