Central Tian-Shan
The Taragai Basin in Central Tien Shan (3200–3500 m a.s.l.) displays well-preserved glacial landforms and active thermokarst processes. The area contains widespread permafrost, moraines, river terraces and over 600 thermokarst depressions, many forming lakes. Their distribution and structure reveal long-term cryogenic development. Sediment and pollen data confirm that climatic shifts and erosion significantly shaped the basin’s morphology.
