This paper describes stone circles observed on a low near-bank bar of the Yana River in northeastern Siberia. Although morphologically similar to classical sorted patterned grounds, their origin may result from hydrodynamic processes, such as macroturbulence occurring during the recession of floodwaters. Similar forms caused by wave action and wind erosion are also discussed, indicating a broader range of environmental conditions capable of generating polygonal patterns.
