Abstract

The study deals with the possibilities of the microscopical method of studying cryogenic phenomena. Observations concerning the microstructure of clay rock subjected to repeated freezing and thawing are presented with particular reference to the loess-like cover formations of the Bolšezemelskaya Tundra together with the results of experimental studies, and a description of certain features of the microstructure of glacial deposits which are of a cryogenic nature. It has been demonstrated that certain specific microstructural features may develop in grounds subjected to repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
