Stratified screes are described from several places in Sardinia. Though they are generally developed on Mesozoic calcareous rocks they also occur on various other formations, Cambrian and Miocene limestones, Silurian schists and Oligocene ignimbrites. These periglacial deposits are found on slopes of all orientations at all elevations up to 1300 m. The majority were formed during the Würm but some date from the Riss, Mindel and lower Pleistocene.
