Zjawiska peryglacjalne na Tasmanii

Osypiska, pokrywy soliflukcyjne, lodowce gruzowe, cyrki niwacyjne, moreny przeduskokowe oraz rumowiska skalne pochodzące z późnego czwartorzędu, jak również niektóre współcześnie aktywne formy peryglacjalne, zostały opisane z kilku stanowisk w górach środkowej Tasmanii, wraz z implikacjami klimatycznymi. Formy czwartorzędowe przypisano ostatniemu pleniglacjałowi oraz następującemu po nim cyklowi deglacjacyjnemu. Klimat pleniglacjału na najwyższych, nie zlodowaconych szczytach górskich cechował się zimnem oraz względną suchością, z intensywnym nawiewaniem śniegu przez wiatr, lecz bez powszechnego występowania wieloletniej zmarzliny. Zakłada się, że średnia roczna temperatura była co najmniej o 6,5°C niższa względem współczesnych wartości.
