Piętrowe zróżnicowanie morfoklimatyczne obszarów akumulacji lessów młodszych w Europie

Less młodszy (YL) był akumulowany w Europie podczas ostatniego cyklu glacjalnego, w przedziale 70-12 tys. lat BP, który odpowiada stadiom tlenowym: 4, 3 i 2. Jego rozmieszczenie jest dobrze widoczne na mapach osadów czwartorzędowych pokazujących zasięg lessu, ponieważ starsze lessy są z reguły ukryte pod warstwami YL. Rozmieszczenie i cechy YL są zróżnicowane zarówno w poziomych strefach geograficznych, jak i w poziomach wysokościowych. Zbadano prawidłowości w zróżnicowaniu wysokościowym właściwych lessów i osadów lessopodobnych. Pod tym względem w strefie lessów peryglacjalnych można wyróżnić następujące prowincje: kontynentalną, przejściową i oceaniczną, natomiast w strefie lessów śródziemnomorskich: pontyjską (niektóre właściwości YL podobne do azjatyckich lessów perydesertycznych), adriatycką i iberyjską (wyraźne ślady wpływu klimatu tropikalnego).
